The number of concurrent players of Cyberpunk 2077 on Steam has reached 187,000. This is the highest figure since October 2023, when the major expansion Phantom Liberty came out. Developers at CD Projekt Red have confirmed the surge in interest in the game, which will soon turn six years old.
The rise in popularity is linked to two events. Last week, the second season of the anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners premiered on Netflix. At the same time, update 2.5 was released for the game itself. It adds the ability to use two weapons at once, new cosmetic items, a customizable appearance for cyberimplants, and a story quest tied to the series.
A similar, though less pronounced, surge followed the release of the first season of Edgerunners in September 2022. At that time, the number of players on Steam reached 137,000. The series is considered to have played an important role in reviving interest in the game after its troubled launch in December 2020. The Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is currently on sale on Steam at a 70% discount.
CD Projekt Red has also said that work continues on a sequel to the game, Cyberpunk 2.
