A Player Who Backed Star Citizen for Ten Years Has Published a Scathing Review

One of the long-time fans of the space simulator Star Citizen, which has been in development for 14 years, has criticized the project for bugs that go unfixed for years and other shortcomings.

A Reddit user under the name The_Red_Moses, who says he has financially supported the development of Star Citizen for ten years, published a detailed review in which he rated the game 3.4 out of 10. The post has drawn more than fifteen hundred approving responses and hundreds of comments from other players.

The author of the review argues that the game should be judged as a finished product rather than as a project in development, since its creators, Cloud Imperium Games, charge players full price. Star Citizen, in his view, makes a good first impression thanks to the scale of its universe and the meticulous detail of its starships. That impression, however, quickly gives way to disappointment, the player writes, because of critical bugs that wipe out all accumulated progress and go unfixed for years.

Among the other shortcomings he cited are monotonous missions, a tedious reputation-building process, the lack of a well-thought-out player trading system and pointless piracy mechanics. Many commenters agreed with the reviewer, noting that the developers have focused on hard-to-achieve technologies instead of bringing the game to completion.
