On October 31, the streaming service HBO Max released a special episode of "It: Welcome to Derry," the series based on Stephen King's novel. Titled "The Story of Derry," the installment came as a surprise to viewers and was timed to Halloween.

The half-hour episode is set hundreds of years before the events shown in the films and the main series. It follows three young men from a Native American tribe who enter a forbidden forest and are the first to encounter the ancient evil that dwells there, long before it took the form of the clown Pennywise.

The first season of It: Welcome to Derry, which serves as a prequel to the two feature films, premiered in the fall of 2025. The project has received positive reviews: on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a rating of 80% from critics and 82% from audiences. The creators are already working on a second season, but its release date has not yet been announced.
