Following the final ban on the Golden Crown money transfer system, the volume of remittances from Russia to Georgia has fallen sharply. As of late October 2026, several schemes are in use for sending money.
One option is a ruble transfer from Raiffeisenbank Russia or OTP Bank Russia to a ruble account at a Georgian bank. Such accounts can be opened, for example, at TBC. The rubles can then be exchanged for lari at the bank's internal rate or through online services.
Transfers through private accounts in other countries, so-called peer-to-peer schemes, remain possible, as do transfers from Sberbank or T-Bank. The mobile applications Avosend, Unired, Multitransfer, Kwikpay and Teleport also continue to operate. However, any of them may stop working for anywhere from a few hours to a week, and the exchange rate is sometimes unfavourable.
Many people find those who need rubles in Russia or lari in Georgia among their acquaintances and exchange money directly. Another option is cryptocurrency. Money is transferred through exchanges, most often Bybit, to accounts of currency exchange offices licensed in Georgia, and then received on a local card or in cash.
