Musician Shota Adamashvili, from the Georgian town of Bolnisi, has become the winner of a major international country music competition. He claimed victory at the Texas Sounds International Country Music Awards festival, held in the city of Marshall, Texas. The performances of the contestants took place from October 1 to 4, and Adamashvili announced his win on his social media page after they concluded.
The Texas festival brings together country performers from around the world. This year's programme featured artists from fifteen countries: performers from Australia, Canada, Germany, Kenya, Mexico, Namibia, Switzerland and the United Kingdom shared the stage with the Georgian musician. Shota Adamashvili represented Georgia at the competition and performed in the "country blues" category.
The Georgian singer's victory in Texas, the birthplace of country music, has been a notable event. This musical genre has almost no historical connection with Georgia, and Adamashvili himself has made this cultural incongruity a part of his artistic path. He devoted more than ten years to perfecting his style while thousands of kilometres away from the origins of the music he fell in love with. His "Georgian country" can be heard in the video Georgian Country Singer.
