Narcologist Zurab Sikharulidze reported five cases of overdose in Batumi over the past week. He also spoke about the appearance of a pink powder being passed off as methadone, a medication used in substitution therapy.
The composition of the new substance is unknown, but the doctor suspects it may contain dangerous synthetic opioids. According to available information, the powder produces a strong narcotic effect.
Zurab Sikharulidze urged people not to use unknown substances. He reminded that at the first signs of overdose one should call 112 immediately and, if possible, use naloxone, a first-aid medication.
The doctor also commented on state drug policy. In his words, it should protect human lives in practice, not only on paper.
