A fan of the Prince of Persia series has written an open letter to the publisher Ubisoft offering more than five million euros to resume work on the remake of The Sands of Time. The author of the letter, which appeared on the Reddit forum, described this sum as a starting budget and said he is ready to allocate the funds once an official agreement is reached. The terms, he writes, are for the company itself to set.
The author of the offer expects no financial return and claims no share of sales, future profits or rights to the game. He specifically stressed that he does not intend to interfere with Ubisoft's creative decisions. He asks the company only to indicate an official channel for submitting the financial proposal.
I have no intention of interfering with the creative direction or decisions of the company.
— From the letter of an anonymous fan
The remake of the 2003 classic was announced in September 2020. Its release was postponed several times, and development was moved from Indian studios to Ubisoft's Montreal office, where the work was effectively started anew. In January of this year, the project was cancelled as part of the company's restructuring. The development team acknowledged that bringing the game to the required quality would have taken "more time and investment than we can responsibly afford." Ubisoft has not yet responded to the letter.
