Five women from Palakkad district in the Indian state of Kerala have made a name for themselves with their cooking channel on YouTube. Renjini, Dhania, Rajani, Sarada and Jayaprabha cook the traditional dishes of their region on camera.

The channel is called VillageFoodKerala. It was launched in 2024 on YouTube and Facebook. The hosts show how to prepare dishes according to old recipes outdoors, against picturesque rural backdrops. As the Indian newspaper The Hindu reports, the channel has resonated with the Malayali, the people who inhabit Kerala and live in various countries around the world.

In one of the videos, the women, dressed in identical blue saris, make a "bread dessert" for the Hindu festival of Diwali. For this seemingly simple dish, they use only ghee, bread, milk and sugar.
