A user under the alias NotRexed has published an early version of SkyboundTOTK, an unofficial personal computer version of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Its main distinction from existing ways of running the game is that it works as a standalone Windows application and does not require console emulators for the Nintendo Switch.
The author calls his work a developer version and warns of numerous bugs, which he intends to fix in the near future. Despite its early stage, the port already supports features familiar from PC games: keyboard and mouse controls, windowed and full-screen modes, and support for ultrawide monitors. The port includes AMD FSR 1 technology, which boosts performance by rendering the image at a lower resolution and then scaling it up to the screen resolution. There is also an experimental interpolation feature that adds intermediate frames for smoother motion.

Installing the game is not easy. The project is distributed as source code, which the user must compile independently using developer tools for Windows 10 or 11. The process takes time and requires at least 45 gigabytes of free disk space. In addition, you will need a legally purchased copy of the game of a specific version: 1.0.0. The game files are not included in the project.
Work on the port became known in mid-October. At that time, on an RTX 4060 Ti graphics card, the game ran at between 32 and 59 frames per second. Fresh performance measurements for the current version are not yet available. The previous installment in the series, Breath of the Wild, also has a similar unofficial PC version.
