From 16 to 18 October, the Yerevan Museum of Folk Art will hold a scholarly conference, "Armenian Folk and Applied Art." It is timed to mark the centenary of the birth of Hovhannes Sharambeyan, after whom the museum is named, and International Day for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The organisers aim to create a forum for discussing museum and private collections, the preservation of traditional crafts, and contemporary approaches to their study. Papers may address the history and theory of Armenian art, the legacy of old masters, the transmission of knowledge, and the role of museums in sustaining living culture. A separate strand will be devoted to folk art in contemporary design, creative industries and digital projects.

The programme will conclude with a round table, "Folk Art or Applied Art?", to which independent researchers are also invited. Applications with paper abstracts are accepted until 30 September at [email protected]. Full papers are due by 30 December. Further details are available from the conference's academic secretary, Torgom Aganyan.
