Armenia's State Revenue Committee has reported the uncovering of a fraudulent scheme in Yerevan. According to the agency, a local company offered citizens membership cards that supposedly granted the right to use taxi services in premium-class cars free of charge.
It emerged that the company provided services in the field of information technology and had created applications through which it offered taxi services. Card buyers were promised not only free rides but also high income from investments. The services were advertised on social networks, including with the participation of a well-known blogger.
Fourteen people paid the company in cash, between 500,000 and 2 million drams each. The total amount of damage came to 8 million 475 thousand drams. After payment, clients were added to a special application, but they received neither the promised rides nor any profit.
During operational measures, it was established that the company had no cars or other assets for conducting such activity, and its employees introduced themselves to clients under fictitious names. The case has been referred to Armenia's Investigative Committee.
The State Revenue Committee urged citizens to carefully examine the terms of such offers and verify information about companies before making financial investments, and not to rely solely on promises made in advertising.
