Georgia's Neo Georgian Bank and the international company Ant International have agreed to introduce the Alipay+ payment system in Georgia. Under the terms of the agreement, Neo Georgian Bank will become the system's exclusive partner in the country and the central technology and settlement hub for the entire financial sector.
The project envisions local banks connecting to a single network, allowing payments by QR code throughout Georgia, and making Georgian cards and banking apps compatible with the global Alipay+ network. The system will let travelers pay abroad using the payment apps they already use at home, and let merchants accept such payments through a single QR code.
According to local media, the full-scale launch of the system is scheduled for the end of the second quarter of 2027. It will be preceded by obtaining approvals from regulators and pilot testing.
