A new telephone fraud scheme has emerged in Georgia, in which scammers pose as bank representatives.

The scheme works like this: a person receives a call informing them that someone is trying to take out a loan in their name. When the person says they do not know this individual, they are called again. Under the pretext of "security procedures," the fraudsters ask for personal details and one-time codes from SMS messages. Once they gain access to the accounts, they take out a loan in the person's name and withdraw the money.

The Society and Banks Association recommends that no one share their logins, passwords or SMS codes with anyone. In the event of suspicious calls, one should immediately contact the bank through the official contact details listed on its website.
