Traveller Maria Evseeva walked 540 kilometres along the Lycian Way, a hiking route, in 30 days together with her friend. In conversation with Championat, she gave several pieces of advice for those planning such a trek.

In her words, cardiovascular endurance is essential in mountainous terrain. Strength training can build up the legs, but without good wind, the going will be hard. Those who run regularly or do cardio training find the route easier and more even-paced.

Another important point is a properly packed backpack. Evseeva advised against taking unnecessary items in order to keep the load as light as possible.

She also spoke about safety on the trail, especially for women travelling alone. In her experience, she had not encountered anyone among the hikers who caused problems. Local residents posed no threat either. On the contrary, many tourists and locals often offered help and shared their food.

Many campsites are right in the middle of the trail, far from villages. No one would think of going there on purpose.
