In Tbilisi, municipal inspectors have taken down the trading structures at the Marjanishvili metro station. According to the city hall, the area has been fully restored to order.

The statement says that the vendors, despite repeated warnings, failed to comply with the requirements of the law and continued their illegal activity. According to city authorities, unauthorised street trading and unlawful structures distort the look of the city, obstruct the movement of people and create unsanitary conditions.

The municipal inspectorate calls on citizens to observe the law. No instance of illegal street trading or the restriction of public spaces will go unanswered. In all such cases, measures provided for by law will be taken.

For many years, stalls belonging to second-hand booksellers, as well as sellers of flowers, jewellery and other goods, stood at the entrance to the Marjanishvili station. As the local press reports, the dismantling of the structures late at night caused discontent among the vendors. Some of them told journalists that trading was their only source of income.
