The British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has updated its travel advice in light of the military and political situation in the Middle East. The department warns of a high likelihood of missile strikes and sudden airspace closures in 16 countries of the region.

The list includes popular tourist destinations Turkey, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, as well as Jordan, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Pakistan, Israel, Palestine, Iraq, Syria, Yemen and Iran. The situation in the region is described as "deeply unpredictable."

The warning is linked to Iran's stated intention to attack facilities it associates with the United States and Israel. According to British diplomats' assessment, this creates a risk of retaliatory strikes and the activation of air defence systems. Travellers may face flight cancellations and schedule disruptions.

The ministry advises avoiding any areas near military bases, government buildings and strategic facilities. In the event of an air raid alert, it is recommended to take shelter immediately in a sturdy building, choosing a room with the fewest windows and external walls, for example an internal staircase. The greatest danger to civilians, the department stresses, comes from falling debris from intercepted missiles and drones. Approaching such debris or any unusual objects on the ground, or photographing them, is strictly prohibited.
