Copper Pot Pictures has released the first trailer for a documentary about Don Bluth, the director and artist-animator. The film, "Don Bluth: Somewhere Out There," is devoted to his life, career and creative struggles.
Don Bluth is known as the creator of the feature-length animated films "The Secret of NIMH," "An American Tail," "The Land Before Time" and "Anastasia." He also contributed to the animation for the video game Dragon's Lair. In 1979, Bluth left Disney, where an established approach to animation held sway, and founded his own studio to create bolder and sometimes darker stories.
As the description indicates, the film will explore the director's attempts to balance creative ambition, commercial success, faith and his own ego. The picture will include new interviews as well as hundreds of hours of previously unpublished archival footage and home videos.
The film was directed by Dave Lamattina and Ched N. Walker. The digital release on Amazon is scheduled for November 20, 2026.
